I had my blood drawn done first to check my counts. It was interesting to find a vein that wasn't already poked this week. Counts were good so my IV was inserted and hydration started. Pre-medicated with Decadron, Pepcid, Aloxi, and Benadryl went from 9:30-10. Benadryl hit me fast. It made me sleepy but I can't sleep there. The chairs recline a little but it's not my bed. I was very drowsy right away though so my eyes were closed, but I could hear everyone talking. Taxotere (first chemo treatment) started in my drip at 10:15 and took until 1:30 until the bag was empty. Carboplatin (second chemo treatment) started at 1:30-3:10. Needle in to needle out, just under 6 hours. Yep, our butts are numb. Every other treatment should not take this long.
So far, so good.
Spoke with the nurse practitioner/PA. MRI & PET scan results back. This was my greatest fear. She reassured me it was good news. No further spread was noted (yay!) I kept saying, "are you sure?" MRI & PET scan only shows activity where we know it is. Two lumps in my left breast (one is 3 cm, the other is 1.1) and one in my lymph node (1.2 cm in armpit area). There is one more potentially infected lymph node in in my mammary node (chest area), but the chemo should take care of it. We have approximately 30-50 nodes on each side, so only 1-2 infected is ideal. Well, none infected would have been better but I'm happy it's not any worse than I thought. The report called the new tumor "worrisome" which didn't sound like a very technical term. I may end up getting radiation to take care of it after surgery, but that's down the road because it is very early stage and may even be benign. I am thanking god that nothing was found in my bones or lungs. My brain has been so non-functioning lately, I thought it could be there. That makes me feel a lot better.
So my prognosis remains the same, and now we just have to pray the chemo does what it's supposed to and everything goes according to plan. Pray for rapidly shrinking tumors, please. I also was told to get my wig soon. Hair will be gone in 14-21 days. I did buy some serum that is supposed to preserve my lashes and brows. We will see if it works. I really hope so because of all of the hair on my body, I would miss my lashes the most!
