Friday at around 5:00 pm Donna called and said my brain scan results came back normal! I'm so glad I didn't have to wait through the weekend for results. I am also happy to report my brain is "normal" haha!
Saturday I took my family to the 24 hour Relay for Life walk in Lake Elsinore. I got to eat a complimentary breakfast for survivors. While I was at breakfast, I was introduced to an adorable 12 year old girl named Brooke. She is the daughter of one of my husband's friends. She was diagnosed 1 year ago with a rare blood cancer (leukemia) called CML. After breakfast the survivors were supposed to all go to the stage in a line and introduce themselves and what type of cancer they have battled or are battling. She didn't really want to do it, but her parents and I encouraged her walk with me. It was a way for me to be strong, because I had to be strong for her. So I went up, said who I was, and was cheered on by the students of Paws for a Cause, Elsinore High School's team. Then her mom went up and introduced her, and Brooke started to cry. It was heart breaking. I think it was good for my kids to see all of the variety of people that have been affected by cancer. I know it made an impact on Jenna, for sure. She kept hugging me and wouldn't let go. Bria kept asking questions like "Do I have cancer? Did Daddy? Just you? Why?"
Saturday afternoon my kids participated in the Kids Walk and then Saturday night we went back to see the luminaries. I was surprised and honored to see that a few had my name on them. It is so sad to see all of those names of loved ones that have passed from cancer. I hope that in my lifetime we can see an end to this awful disease.
